Our Adult and Teen classes will be offered in the evenings to build drawing and painting skills. Whether you are creating a portfolio, continuing your drawing and painting process or just trying something new and fun with a community of artists, we have lots of exciting options!

NEW! Foundational Drawing I + Drawing II with Dante

Our 4-week foundational classes are designed to guide students to develop drawing skills while encouraging personal style and creativity. We will be a focusing on technical skills for charcoal while drawing the figure, observational interior landscapes, and experimenting with the process. Students will learn about line, shape, shading, and composition while referencing from the masters, Rembrandt, DaVinci, Seurat & Degas. In Drawing II, students will continue to build on foundational drawing skills, with a focus on project based assignments-designing a heart map and an idea web with a final piece inspired by music.

NEW! Foundational Painting I + Painting I

with Dante

Our 4-week foundational painting courses focuses on experimental painting and taking ideas to meaning, turning a concept into a creation. Students will learn about symbolism and how to generate their own ideas. We will reference the masters throughout history who used various painting techniques to create their masterpieces. This four week class will be followed by Painting II where students will continue to build skills in creative concepts and practice painting techniques. 

 

NEW! An Evening of Figure Drawing

with Dante

Calling all former BFA students or any artist who loves to draw from life. Sketch directly from the figure to explore the human form and anatomy. The class is open to both new and experienced students, who may explore variation and invention when interpreting a pose. Working from a clothed model, we will focus on students’ sense of proportion and scale relationships to accurately depict the human form.

This class is especially useful for strengthening the high school or college portfolio.

Beginner Acrylic Painting with Jeanette

Learn the basics of composition, color mixing and values with friends or meet new ones with our local community of artists. Using acrylic paints, students will learn the basics of painting in easily digestible stages. You will learn how to set up a palette, use painting mediums and brushes, mix colors, create correct values, and understand the principles of good composition. In addition, the work of old and contemporary masters is discussed each week as it relates to student work Inspiration will be taken from Impression masters. This four week class will be offered four Thursdays in July.  

 

An Evening of Creating Series: Drawing, Painting + Paint n’ Sip:

Bring a friend or come solo, have some wine or a mocktail (in our paint n’ sip classes) and have fun creating a beautiful work of art during a relaxing evening for a few weeks this summer. Learn the basics of composition, line, shape, and form, color mixing and values with friends or meet new ones with our local community of artists. 

NEW! Making Tables

(for artists of all ages!)

Making Tables are process art activities available as drop in experiences at Canvas Studio Art! Each table offers a different project, which includes one hour of making time.
